About Me

My name is Helen Yates and I have been a midwife since 1990. In 2007 I stumbled upon HypnoBirthing and it was with some scepticism that I attended a practitioner training course. Before I started the course, I wondered if this would be just another passing trend which would disappear as quickly as it arrived on the birthing scene. How wrong I was! I was impressed by what I learned and continue to be amazed the more couples that I teach and hear from with their wonderful birth experiences.

During the course of my career, I have seen the average UK caesarean section rate rise from 12% to 25%. Epidurals are readily available and approximately 20% of all labours are induced.  The UK home birth rate is a little under 3% and yet in the 1950’s it was over 30%.

Its hardly surprising then that we accept without question that having our babies in large  maternity hospitals with the use of drugs and medical instruments should be the norm.
